Dr. Abraham Rexford Oduro

Director, Research and Development Division, Ghana Health Service


Dr. Oduro is currently a consultant Public Health Physician and the Director of   Research and Development Division of Ghana Health Service. He has over 25 years’ uninterrupted experience in public service, mainly in health research practice and management. At the outset of his career, he practiced as a medical officer at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and later at the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo. He spent over two decades at the renowned Navrongo Health Research Centre, where he was the Director and Head for over a decade.

 

Dr. Oduro initially trained as a medical doctor at the Kwame Nkrumah University Science and Technology, Kumasi Ghana.  In addition, he holds a master’s and a PhD degree in Epidemiology from the University of the Witwatersrand and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London respectively. He has a master’s degree in organizational leadership and governance from the University of Ghana Business School, Legon. He is a member of Ghana Medical Association and a Fellow of Public Health in Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Accra.

 

Dr. Oduro has led several large scale clinical, epidemiological, demographic and innovative research studies in Ghana and has attracted several research and programme grants. He has published over 200 articles in peer reviewed journals.  Dr. Oduro’s current research activities relate to health measurements in disease control, product development research, health systems strengthening, maternal and child health, and environmental related issues.
