HPLC ANALYSIS

The Department of Clinical Pathology of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), University of Ghana, is at the forefront of scientific innovation, offering advanced High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis for various applications, including plant fingerprinting and pharmacokinetic studies. Our state-of-the-art laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge HPLC systems and staffed by highly-experienced professional scientists, ensuring accurate and reliable results for a range of research and pharmaceutical needs. Details of the HPLC-based services offered at the Department are provided in the following sections.

HPLC plays a pivotal role in the field of plant science by enabling accurate plant fingerprinting, a technique used to identify and quantify the diverse compounds present in plant extracts. Plants contain a vast array of bioactive compounds, including phenolic compounds, alkaloids, flavonoids, and more, each contributing to their potential therapeutic properties. HPLC allows us to separate and identify these compounds based on their unique chemical characteristics, creating a distinct “fingerprint” that can aid in plant species identification, quality control, and the assessment of bioactivity.

Our department employs HPLC-based techniques to analyze plant extracts, contributing to the identification of key compounds and their concentrations. This information is invaluable for researchers studying plant chemistry, herbal medicine, and natural product development, as well as for industries involved in botanicals, dietary supplements, and traditional medicine.

HPLC is an indispensable tool in pharmacokinetic studies, which involve the analysis of how a substance is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted within a living organism. Our advanced HPLC systems allow for precise quantification of drug compounds and their metabolites in biological samples such as blood, plasma, and urine. By monitoring the concentration-time profiles of these substances, we gain insights into their pharmacokinetic parameters, bioavailability, half-life, and clearance.

Pharmacokinetic studies are crucial in drug development, helping researchers and pharmaceutical companies make informed decisions about dosing regimens, drug interactions, and safety profiles, as well as in the management of disease conditions Our department’s expertise in HPLC analysis ensures accurate pharmacokinetic data, contributing to the advancement of medical research and the optimization of therapeutic interventions.

Whether you’re conducting plant research, drug development, or other related studies, our department offers customized HPLC analysis solutions tailored to your specific needs. We collaborate closely with researchers, scientists, and industry professionals to design and execute analytical protocols that deliver precise results, fostering advancements in various fields.

We prioritize from onset quality management system. Our laboratories are committed to complying with quality assurance protocols. We monitor laboratory examination results rigorously through equipment calibration, internal quality control and external quality control programs. Our Quality Management System is based on ISO 9001 and ISO 15189. Our Institutional Quality Office creates, releases and ensures the implementation of quality management documentations including manuals and SOPs. The IQO also conducts planned internal audit of our laboratories, ensuring compliance to standards and opportunity for continual improvement.
