A four-day training workshop on “Strengthening Microbial Risk Assessment for Food Safety and Antimicrobial Resistance Using Portable DNA Sequencing Technology” was organized in the Institute from 22nd – 25th May, 2023 with funding support from FAO and SeqAfrica/Fleming Fund.
Facilitators and training participants in a lab at the Advanced Research Laboratories, NMIMR
The workshop equipped participants with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills on DNA library preparation and quantification, loading of DNA libraries and sequencing on MinIoN platform, and Bionformatics analysis.
The training participants were from nine African countries: Benin, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
At the end of the training, each participant received a laptop; sequencing reagents and MinIoN device will also be provided to support sequencing activities in their respective laboratories.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Beverly Egyir, Dr. Marinus van Zwetselaar, Dr. Bright Adu, Mr. Christian Owusu-Nyantakyi, Mr. Grebstad Amuasi, and Miss Quaneeta Mohkta.
