Phlebotomy
Phlebotomy, the process of drawing blood from a patient, is a crucial procedure for diagnostic testing, transfusions, and other medical needs. Our skilled phlebotomists are trained to perform this procedure with precision and care, ensuring patient comfort and minimizing discomfort. In our laboratory, we adhere to strict protocols to maintain a sterile environment and prevent cross-contamination. We meticulously follow every step to ensure the integrity of the blood samples.
Haematology
In the Clinical Safety Laboratory, our expert haematological services provide essential insights into your health. Haematology is the study of blood, blood-forming tissues and their associated diseases. Through a variety of tests, we analyze the components of your blood to diagnose and monitor conditions such as anaemia, clotting disorders, infections, and hematologic cancers. The tests carried out under haematology are FBC (Full Blood Count), reticulocyte count, sickling, G6PD, blood film, etc.
Clinical Chemistry
At our Clinical Safety Laboratory, we specialize in Clinical Chemistry, a vital branch of laboratory medicine focused on analyzing bodily fluids to diagnose and monitor diseases. Our facility is equipped with advanced instrumentation and technologies that allow us to perform a wide range of biochemical tests on blood, urine, and other bodily fluids.
Our commitment to quality assurance and accuracy ensures that each test is performed and interpreted with the highest standards of precision. Our team of experienced clinical chemists and laboratory technicians works diligently to provide fast, reliable results, helping healthcare providers make informed decisions about your care. Tests carried out under the clinical chemistry include the liver function test (LFT), kidney function test (KFT), lipid profile, glucose metabolic panel (fasting and random blood glucose, HbA1C, 2HPP, and OGTT), hormonal assays, tumour markers, cardiac markers, etc.
Urinalysis
Urinalysis is a routine test that analyses urine to detect and manage a wide range of disorders, such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney disease, and diabetes. At our Clinical Safety Laboratory, we offer comprehensive urinalysis services using advanced technology and strict quality control measures to ensure accurate and timely results.
Serology
Serology involves the study of blood serum to detect antibodies, antigens, and other immune markers, providing crucial insights into infectious diseases, autoimmune disorders, and immune system status. The clinical safety laboratory is enrolled in an external quality assurance programme with the College of American Pathologists (CAP), which helps assess the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of our test results.
The clinical safety lab also has the CGM SCHUYLAB laboratory information system, which increases efficiency, data quality, improved communication, and sample tracking.

Reports of laboratory examination results are delivered through email or hard copies are given out to clinicians on projects or principal investigators, prioritising the confidentiality of data and records.

Terms and conditions:
- Analysis is done on a first-come, first-served basis.
- The examination request form must be completed in full. Results will be sent via emails or hard copies given to clients.
- Samples submitted to us must be properly collected and stored. We do not accept responsibility for samples not properly collected and stored.
- Requests for re-analysis of samples by the client will be treated as a new request and should be paid for as such.
- We do not return samples.

Requesting Laboratory Examination/Booking Process
Requests for laboratory examination may be written on the customer’s own request form or on Department of Epidemiology laboratory examination request forms. For our examination request form, please call the laboratory manager on 024 273 9616 or 053 480 4763.
Kindly e-mail the completed examination request form to the Laboratory Manager (Felix Zoiku) at fzoiku@noguchi.ug.edu.gh.
- Upon receipt of a completed examination request form, an invoice will be e-mailed from the laboratory manager to the client or patient.
- Upon receipt of the invoice, make payment at the NMIMR Accounts Office, located in the Main Research Building of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research. Make all payments into the Department of Clinical Safety Laboratory account, NMIMR.
- Client(s) must submit a copy of the payment receipt to the Clinical Safety Laboratory after payment and submit the samples for analysis.
