Prof. George Boateng Kyei, an Associate Professor in the Virology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and Director, Medical and Scientific Research Centre, University of Ghana Medical Centre, on the 12th of April 2024 received special recognition and appreciation from the Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy’s (CEGENSA) for his unique and outstanding contribution to mentoring female faculty of University of Ghana.
Prof Kyei was nominated for this recognition by two of his mentees in response to the call by CEGENSA for mentees to nominate their outstanding mentors for special recognition as part of the 2024 International Women’s Day celebrations.
Prof. Kyei was one of 28 outstanding mentors honoured by CEGENSA during their Maiden Mentor Appreciation Event at the ISSER Conference Hall, University of Ghana. The programme also saw the current Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana (Professor Nana Aba Appiah-Amfo), two former Vice Chancellors (Emeritus Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah and Emeritus Professor Ernest Aryeetey), the Provost of College of Humanities (Professor Daniel Frimpong Ofori) and the Dean of School of Public Health (Professor Kwasi Torpey) also honoured as outstanding mentors of UG’s female faculty.
As part of this recognition, Prof. Kyei received 2 citations from his mentees and a gift from CEGENSA. The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research applauds Prof. Kyei and wishes him many more rewards as he commits to mentoring scientists, researchers, academics, and clinicians.
