NMIMR Celebrates 2024 Retirees

The Welfare Association together with Management held a heart-warming send-off ceremony to honour three members of staff retiring from active service from the Institute and the University. This forms part of the Institute’s long-standing tradition to honour retiring members.  

The ceremony, attended by staff, family, and friends, celebrated the selfless efforts and contributions of Prof. Irene Ayi, who was Head of the Department of Parasitology, Mr. Jonathan Amenya, an Auditor at the Accounts Unit, and Mr. Ebenezer Nii Okpey, a Senior Driver at the Transport Unit, who have collectively served the Institute for 72 years.

In her opening remarks, Prof. Dorothy Yeboah – Manu the Director of the Institute, praised the retirees for their tireless efforts and commitment which have significantly impacted the Institute’s mission of becoming a leading global medical research centre. She encouraged the retirees to continue making a positive impact in their new chapter of life. “Your legacy lives on through the countless lives you have touched”, she said.

Mr. Theodore Ahuno, the Institute Administrator, acknowledged that the ceremony was a testament to the retirees’ dedication and service. He also commended the retirees for their dedication and service.

“Let us take this opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, share memories, and wish our colleagues well on their retirement. I urge all staff in active service to also be committed towards their work at all times. Be ready and ever willing to serve”, Mr. Ahuno said.

Mr. Ahuno used the occasion to also outdoor and congratulate newly promoted research fellows in the persons of Dr. Eric Kyei Baffour, Dr. Belinda Lartey, and Dr. Nana Afia Asante Ntim from the Departments of Immunology, Electron Microscopy, and Histopathology and Virology, respectively.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Prof. Irene Ayi thanked the Welfare Association and Management for organizing the ceremony.  “On behalf of my colleagues, we would like to express our profound gratitude to Management and staff of the Institute for this moment to celebrate us. To staff in active staff, I charge you to give the best of your ability in your line of duty at all times”.

“We are proud to have been part of this family and look forward to staying connected. To our dear Director, Institute Administrator, colleague Research Fellows, staff and the entire management, we are very grateful for this kind gesture”, Prof. Ayi reiterated.

The retirees were presented with awards and gifts in recognition of their service. They shared memories and offered words of wisdom and encouragement of their colleagues.

The ceremony was climaxed with refreshments and group photograph to commemorate the occasion. These gallant retirees will always be remembered as part of the NMIMR family.
