Advanced Research Laboratories (ARL) High Containment Facilities (P3) Awarded 4-Star Recognition

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) of the University of Ghana is proud to announce that its ARL High Containment Facilities have been awarded a 4-star rating following an assessment conducted in March 2025 under the Africa CDC Biosafety and Biosecurity (BSBS) Initiative. This significant achievement reflects the Institute’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of biosafety and biosecurity in support of public health and biomedical research.

The assessment, carried out as part of the Africa CDC’s continental framework to strengthen laboratory biosafety and biosecurity systems, evaluated infrastructure, operational procedures, staff competency, and compliance with international best practices. The ARL High Containment Facilities successfully met the rigorous requirements, earning a certificate of recognition.

This milestone was made possible through the dedicated leadership of Institute Management, the JICA supported Noguchi QMS Project and coordination of the NMIMR Safety Office, whose efforts ensured thorough preparedness and continuous improvement across all relevant domains. The 4-star recognition not only affirms NMIMR’s position as a Regional Center of Excellence for Africa but also reinforces its role in advancing safe and secure research and teaching in infectious disease diagnostics, surveillance, and control.

The Institute remains committed to maintaining and enhancing its standards in alignment with global biosafety and biosecurity objectives.
