Established as a standing committee of the Institute Director’s office, the Health and Safety Committee serves as an independent review group dedicated to overseeing health and safety matters within the Institute.

The committee is tasked with safeguarding the well-being of Institute personnel and visitors. The committee convenes quarterly meetings to deliberate on occupational health and safety concerns in the Institute. These meetings provide a platform for members to address various issues affecting staff and customers, fostering a culture of proactive risk management and continuous improvement. The committee reports to the Director.

Some achievements of the Health and Safety Committee include:

• Development of Health and Safety Manual for the Institute
• Hepatitis B vaccination campaigns
• Organization of Medical screening in collaboration with the Welfare Committee
• Spearheading the refurbishment of the washrooms in the Main Building

In response to the imperative need for robust biosafety and biosecurity measures, and effective management of Noguchi’s high-containment facilities, the Institute Director established the Biorisk and High-Containment Management Committee.

This committee works to enhance the quality and efficacy of work within the Institute by addressing issues related to biosafety, biosecurity and high-containment management. To achieve this goal, the committee convenes quarterly meetings to deliberate on various matters concerning high-containment facilities and biosecurity risks within the Institute.

The committee has developed a comprehensive Biorisk Manual tailored to the Institute’s specific needs and requirements. This manual serves as a centralized resource for guiding personnel on biosecurity protocols, standard operating procedures, emergency response protocols, and best practices for handling hazardous materials.
