Noguchi Memorial Institute Gets a New Director

The Management and Staff of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research congratulate Professor Yeboah-Manu on her appointment as the first female Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana. She takes office on 1st August 2021 to succeed Professor Abraham Kwabena Anang who retired from active service on 31st July 2021.

Brief Profile of Professor Dorothy Yeboah-Manu

Professor Dorothy Yeboah-Manu is a Professor of Medical Microbiology working at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana. She attended the Ofori Panyin Secondary School (now Senior High School) from Form one (1) to Upper six form. She then continued to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and finished with First Class, BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry. While working as a Research Assistant at NMIMR, she studied at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine for her Masters and at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, University of Basel, obtaining a PhD in Microbiology in 2006.

Professor Yeboah-Manu is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, the WHO Global Network of Laboratories Confirming Buruli ulcer, executive member of the Federation of African Immunological Societies, Vice-President of the Immunological Society of Ghana, Steering committee member for the National Buruli ulcer Control Program. 

She is also the Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the National Tuberculosis Control Program. She is a Senior Fellow of the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership and a board member for African Research Academies for Women, Ghana and a Fellow of the Wellcome Trust. She won the Royal Society Africa Prize in 2018 in recognition of her innovative contributions to the understanding of the microbiology, genetics and molecular epidemiology of Mycobacterium ulcerans and Mycobacterium africanum.

 Professor Yeboah-Manu is married to Mr. Victor Yeboah-Manu, and they are blessed with two beautiful ladies and a handsome gentleman.
