NMIMR Receives award for ‘Leader in COVID-19 Research Delivery’

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research has received an award for ‘Leader in  COVID-19 Research Delivery’ at the West Africa Clinical Alliance Awards 2021. The award was in recognition of the Institute’s service to the country and the African region after the  COVID-19 pandemic hit the world in 2019.

 The West African Clinical Alliance Awards is an annual health award ceremony, organized by Corporate Health Ghana, that recognizes and rewards the exceptional contribution and innovative brilliance of clinical healthcare professionals and organizations.

 This year’s event took place on 26th November 2021 at the Sun Lodge Hotel in Accra under the theme ‘Celebrating the Heroic Role of Healthcare Professionals in Managing the Global COVID-19 pandemic in Africa’

The Institute received the most outstanding award of the night for its contribution towards testing for COVID-19 in Ghana. The award was received on behalf of the Institute by the Administrator, Mr. Theodore M. Ahuno, who was accompanied by a Research Fellow, Dr. Mary Amoakoh-Coleman of the Department of Epidemiology, and the Assistant Registrar, Ms. Afia Adoma Boakye.

The Institute expresses its gratitude to the Government of Ghana, the People of Japan especially the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the University of Ghana, for their varied support to its mission in curbing the spread of the virus and reducing the negative impact of the pandemic in Ghana and the African region.

The award is dedicated to staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly during the height of the pandemic, and who continue to support the Institute in its efforts to improve biomedical research in general. We say thank you.
