Overview of Work
The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) library serves the members of staff to provide easy and ready access to literature and information relevant to the various researches that are carried out and also make available information to the general public.
The Library provides easy access to literature and information relevant to the various research that are carried out at the Institute, and also make available information to the general public including health professionals and medical researchers.
The Institute Library cooperates with local and international information providers in the areas of exchange of health information, resources and services. Notable among them are The Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa (AHILA), World Health Organization (WHO), JICA, College of Health Sciences Library, School of Public health Library and the e-resource and the Digitization units (Institutional Repository) of Balme library at the University of Ghana.
Collection
Support to Research and General Institute Work
- Collection development and Management:- Acquisition, organization of knowledge, dissemination and preservation of information resources.
- Photocopying and scanning services:- The Library makes photocopies and scan materials for users who need materials that are rare or reference collection therefore cannot be taken out of the library hence photocopy or scan.
- Bibliographic services:- The Library is responsible for collating all staff publications for the purpose of user service, dissemination, annual reports and newsletters of the Institute.
- Current awareness services:- The Library also provide staff members with access to the dailies to keep staff abreast with current issues in the country especially outbreak of diseases.
- Reader and reference services:- The Library and documentation unit also assist our researchers to locate and retrieve information from both manual and electronic sources.
- Circulation services:- The Noguchi Library is one of the libraries on the University of Ghana Online Public Access Catalogue. The Library charge and discharge books and other information materials to staff to assist in their learning and research work
- Literature searches:- The Information Resource Unit is also responsible for conducting literature searches to support on-going research in the Institute and also support students with literature on specific research topics. The unit has access to internet and PCs for students and researchers to conduct searches with the support of the librarians.
- User education and referral services:- The Library and Information Resource unit train Staff, Library interns and National Service Persons on the rudiments of the library service and how to use the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) and research databases to retrieve information to support teaching, learning and research in the Institute.
