Annual Research Meeting (ARM 2026)

                                                             CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) is pleased to announce its Annual Research Meeting 2026 (ARM2026), scheduled to take place from 25th to 27th November 2026.

The theme for ARM2026 is:

“Strengthening African-Led Research for Global Health Security”

The Organizing Committee warmly invites researchers, scientists, students, and professionals to submit abstracts for consideration for presentation at the meeting.

 

Presentation Formats

Submitted abstracts will be reviewed and selected for any of the following presentation formats:

  • Oral Presentations – 10–15-minute presentations integrated into thematic breakout sessions.
  • Poster Presentations – Displayed during designated poster sessions.
  • Turbo Talks – A select number of high-quality poster abstracts will be invited for a concise 2-minute speed presentation during special Turbo Talk sessions.

 

Publication Opportunities

All accepted abstracts will be published in the ARM2026 Book of Abstracts and included in the official Meeting Proceedings following the conference.

 

Submission Guidelines

Abstracts must be submitted through the online abstract submission portal. Detailed information on the thematic/research areas, submission requirements, and guidelines for authors is available below.

We encourage submissions that showcase innovative research, foster scientific collaboration, and contribute to advancing African-led solutions for global health challenges

 

Information for authors:

1. Your abstract should align with at least one of the eight (8) meeting themes/research areas:

 

  1. Viral, Bacterial, and Parasitic Diseases of Public Health Importance
  • Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases
  • Genomic surveillance, pathogen evolution, and outbreak response
  • Preparedness for epidemics and pandemics (e.g., COVID-19, Ebola, Mpox)
  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance and mitigation strategies
  • Host-pathogen interactions

 

     2. Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)

  • Epidemiology, surveillance, and control of NTDs (e.g. schistosomiasis, filariasis, Buruli ulcer, etc.)
  • Elimination strategies and programme implementation
  • Drug and insecticide resistance
  • Vector biology and integrated vector management

 

     3. Innovations in Diagnostics, Therapeutics, Vaccines and Laboratory Systems Strengthening

  • Strengthening laboratory systems and networks
  • Diagnostic innovations and point-of-care technologies
  • Quality assurance and laboratory accreditation
  • Development and evaluation of diagnostics
  • Drug discovery and development
  • Vaccine discovery and development
  • Clinical trials

 

      4. One Health

  • Climate change impacts on infectious diseases
  • Impact of climate change on diseases
  • Vector-borne disease ecology and control
  • Water, sanitation, and environmental health

  1. Abstracts should contain original data not published at the time of the abstract submission deadline.
  2. All abstracts must be submitted online via the dedicated system that will be available from 22nd June 2026 to 7th August 2026. Abstracts submitted by email or any alternative method will not be considered.
  3. The presenting author is responsible for the abstract content. S/he must be the contact person for submission and communication purposes and is also responsible for disseminating information related to the session to the co-authors.
  4. Upon selection by the review committee, the presenting author agrees to make themselves available during the annual meeting for the presentation, question and answer session.

 

Abstract Text:

  • The abstract should be in English, and no more than 300 words. Please note that abstracts with more than 300 words will be rejected by the portal and submission will not be complete.
  • Titles should be no more than 20 words. Titles should be in sentence cases and not capital letters.
  • Abstract should be in one paragraph and should contain background, methods, results, and conclusion, without providing these headings in the text.
  • Also, provide up to five keywords
  • Abbreviations and acronyms must be written out in full at the first mention in the text.
  • Authors are responsible for proofreading and submitting abstracts without errors.
  • All submitted abstracts will be sent for peer review by a panel of experts who will determine appropriateness for the meeting. Authors who may have requested oral or poster presentations may be requested to change their preference.
  • Authors will be informed of the outcome of their submissions by 18th September 2026
