DR FRANKLIN ASIEDU-BEKOE
Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe is a medical doctor and a Public Health Physician with specialization in Applied Epidemiology and Disease Control. He has been a public health practitioner for the past 19 years with competencies in surveillance, field investigations, research, data management, scientific communication and teaching. He has worked at the international, national, regional and district levels.
Asiedu-Bekoe is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons at the Faculty of Public Health. He was a consultant for World Health Organization and Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the Global Programme for the Eradication of Polio in Afghanistan in 2010. He is a facilitator at the Ghana College of Physicians at the Faculty of Public Health. He has been the lead investigator in several outbreaks including Cholera, Pandemic Influenza, H1N1, Yellow Fever, Lassa Fever, Marburg Virus Disease and Meningitis. He was a member of the team that investigated the First Lassa Fever cases in Ghana in 2011. Ghana was certified Guinea Worm Free in 2015 during his tenure as Programme Manager.
He was the Deputy Director (Public Health) and Head of Surveillance Department of Ghana Health Service. He was the Subject Lead on Real Time Surveillance and Workforce Development for National Internal Assessment on Public Health Emergency Preparedness and has been a Subject Matter Expert for Joint External Evaluation (JEE) Missions in Lesotho and Swaziland in 2017 and 2018 being Technical Area Leads in Real-time Surveillance, Workforce Development, Reporting and Chemical Events.
He is a member of the Expert Review Team for the 3rd Edition Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) Technical Guidelines and Training Modules. He is the leader of the Surveillance Thematic Area for the Ghana COVID-19 Response and Co-Chair of the Ghana One-Health Platform. Convener of the National Public Health Emergency Operation Centre. He is now the Director of Public Health, Ghana Health Service. He was given the Order of Volta, Companion Division in 2023 by the President of Ghana for his meritorious work towards the COVID-19 Response as a member of national COVID-19 Task Force.
