Prof. Ian Gilbert

Prof. Gilbert is a Professor of Drug Discovery, Head of Division of the Drug Discovery Unit (DDU) and Director of the Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research, School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee.

By discipline, he is a medicinal chemist. Following post-doctoral research in medicinal and biological chemistry projects, he established his own research group, focusing on medicinal chemistry at Cardiff University. In 2005, he moved to Dundee, where he helped to establish the DDU. He was head of chemistry in the Drug Discovery Unit from its inception, until 2022, when he became Head of the DDU. This year he also became Director of the Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research.
