The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) has achieved a milestone by receiving ISO 15189:2022 accreditation from the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) with Accreditation certificate number KENSA/ML/177.
The accreditation was granted following an extensive assessment of the Institute’s quality management system, laboratory processes, technical competence, and compliance with the ISO 15189:2022 standard. This underscores NMIMR’s ability to consistently deliver accurate and reliable diagnostic results.
Prof. Dorothy Yeboah-Manu, Director of NMIMR, commended all staff of the Institute, especially the Quality office, Heads of Department, Departmental Quality Managers as well as Quality Coordinators for their unwavering dedication to the cause.
The Director emphasized that this accomplishment not only highlights NMIMR’s efforts but also solidifies its position as a leader in biomedical research and diagnostics across West Africa. “This accreditation assures our stakeholders and collaborators of our adherence to international standards, which strengthens our ability to build partnerships, secure funding, and create a greater impact in our field,” Prof. Yeboah-Manu added as she urged staff to remain focused on continuous improvement, sustainability, and fostering a culture of excellence
The Noguchi Quality Management Systems (QMS) Project, initiated in 2022 and funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has supported various QMS activities in the Institute.
The QMS project has contributed to the development of NMIMR’s quality framework, which encompasses internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
NMIMR’s ISO 15189:2022 accreditation marks a significant leap forward in its commitment to quality, innovation, and leadership in biomedical research and diagnostics.
